Knitting, again

Contrary to what you might think (because of my massive obsession with all things fabricky), I also knit now and again. I tend to make small things, because I am too mean to spend a fortune on yarn and also because I am a pretty slow knitter. I have strong memories of my mother knitting the same sweater for about 12 years (I kid you not). It started off being for my eldest sister, then my middle sister, and finally me. It eventually got thrown away in disgust (still unfinished) when I was about ten sizes too big for it.
So, yes, I knit hats and scarves and baby clothes and socks. And right now I am knitting a clapotis, which sounds like it should be some kind of venereal disease but is actually much more pleasant. Or so I believe. Ahem.
Even though this is my third time making this pattern I am still amazed every time the deliberately dropped stitches become gorgeous, intentional ladders, completely unlike the disaster that normally comes with dropping a stitch. It's a pretty big scarf and is taking a while to knit up, but I am hoping to get it done before summer. If we ever get one, that is.

  2. I swear I must be the only knitter never to have knit a Clapotis. I don't know why, probably because I keep finding other things to knit first. Lovely yarn you have chosen. It will look lovely when it is done.

  6. Good grief, Charlotte, that's stunning! Love those colors so much!! also, thank you for clarifying because I read it and thought "oh my, that sounds like something I wouldn't want to catch" and then you cleared it right up that it wasn't a VD, so thank you for that.

  7. Looks fabulous....I totally understand your mother's story. I have several knitting projects which are taking me several years to finish. The little projects I usually manage to finish (sometimes).

  9. You are too funny. I should try this pattern as I drop lots of stitches and haven't yet learned how to pick them up although the randomness of my dropped stitches doesn't of course produce such a lovely ladder :)

  11. Oooh lovely! I remember making a Clapotis (only the one though!) and felt so nervous deliberately dropping stitches!!! Looks like you made a better choice than me though - I used a fluffy yarn which was a pig to drop. Lesson learned!!!!!! Can't wait to see it all finished :) x

  23. Wow that's working out to be very beautiful! It just looks so cuddly! I have no patience with knitting... and it irritates my wrists... so I always trade quilted goods for knitted goods with my work friends. :)
