Contrary to what you might think (because of my massive obsession with all things fabricky), I also knit now and again. I tend to make small things, because I am too mean to spend a fortune on yarn and also because I am a pretty slow knitter. I have strong memories of my mother knitting the same sweater for about 12 years (I kid you not). It started off being for my eldest sister, then my middle sister, and finally me. It eventually got thrown away in disgust (still unfinished) when I was about ten sizes too big for it.
So, yes, I knit hats and scarves and baby clothes and socks. And right now I am knitting a clapotis, which sounds like it should be some kind of venereal disease but is actually much more pleasant. Or so I believe. Ahem.
Even though this is my third time making this pattern I am still amazed every time the deliberately dropped stitches become gorgeous, intentional ladders, completely unlike the disaster that normally comes with dropping a stitch. It's a pretty big scarf and is taking a while to knit up, but I am hoping to get it done before summer. If we ever get one, that is.

That is GORGEOUS! I might just need to whip out me needles.
ReplyDeleteI swear I must be the only knitter never to have knit a Clapotis. I don't know why, probably because I keep finding other things to knit first. Lovely yarn you have chosen. It will look lovely when it is done.
ReplyDeleteVery nice! Have you ever made the dessert clafoutis?!?
ReplyDeleteLove the colours in the yarn. Now so pleased it is nicer than VD though.
ReplyDeleteClapotis is also I'm my queue! You should enter my giveaway... Potentially a free skein of hand-dyed yarn...
ReplyDeleteGood grief, Charlotte, that's stunning! Love those colors so much!! also, thank you for clarifying because I read it and thought "oh my, that sounds like something I wouldn't want to catch" and then you cleared it right up that it wasn't a VD, so thank you for that.
ReplyDeleteLooks fabulous....I totally understand your mother's story. I have several knitting projects which are taking me several years to finish. The little projects I usually manage to finish (sometimes).
ReplyDeleteYou should definitely get some cream for it, sounds itchy! :o)
ReplyDeleteYou are too funny. I should try this pattern as I drop lots of stitches and haven't yet learned how to pick them up although the randomness of my dropped stitches doesn't of course produce such a lovely ladder :)
ReplyDeleteTis lovely dear! Looks light enough to wear on a cool summers evening too. Year round wearing pleasure. Just make sure you use protection next time! K?
ReplyDeleteOooh lovely! I remember making a Clapotis (only the one though!) and felt so nervous deliberately dropping stitches!!! Looks like you made a better choice than me though - I used a fluffy yarn which was a pig to drop. Lesson learned!!!!!! Can't wait to see it all finished :) x
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to try that pattern but it seems daunting. I love the yarn though!
ReplyDeleteNever heard about a clapotis before reading this. So relieved that it is far nicer than a case of VD! Di x
ReplyDeleteOnly French women wear scarves!!???
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about going fast, we don't get summer any more x
Fabulous dahling! I leave the knitting to my mother, I have no patience!
ReplyDeleteI think I need to learn to knit!! :-)
ReplyDeleteIt is lovely. I knit a lot in addition to quilting and am happy to see any knitting you feel like sharing.
ReplyDeleteAh I love your sense of humour. It looks amazing, regardless of how grotty the name sounds ;o)
ReplyDeletePrettiest case of the clap I have ever seen! ;-)
ReplyDeleteJust what I need .... looks lovely!
ReplyDelete; )
I love knitting too but have never heard of clapotis ..until now. Looks fabulous! I have an unfinished maternity jumper that I started when pregnant with my son who is 21 in a few weeks time, and that's just one of many UFO's!
ReplyDeletei love when you are actually allowed to drop stitches...it's getting them in the right place that's tricky...looking gorgeous, gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteWow that's working out to be very beautiful! It just looks so cuddly! I have no patience with knitting... and it irritates my wrists... so I always trade quilted goods for knitted goods with my work friends. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely. What's the yarn?
ReplyDeleteAm thinking you may need to wear it this summer! It will look gorgeous and help to compensate for lack of sunshine!
ReplyDeleteThat's gorgeous. I can drop stitches but not knit like this. Love the colour of the yarn though.
