It seems that there is a lot of disagreement about what Emerald actually is. In my (clearly minority) opinion emerald is a very green kind of green, and Pantone Emerald is actually teal. But then I did once spend an entire day being teased by the other members of the LMQG for saying my cardigan was blue when everyone else thought it was purple (yes
Pennie, I am talking about you). Maybe I have something wrong with my colour perception. In any case, the organisers of the
Pantone Emerald challenge have decreed that any shade of green will do, which is fab because I bought
this stack at Quilt Market. I love it when a non-plan comes together.
I really love the colour gradation in these bundles so decided to make an improv quilt with a similar ombre effect. The green panel is about 80% finished at the moment and I am planning on surrounding it with a swathe of neutral pieced from biggish pieces. Or I might decide to keep it as a mini if I run out of time.

Once again I find myself wishing there were more hours in the day.
I agree, emerald is a greeny green like an actual emerald gem. The Pantone one appears to be too blue to me, a bit blue and a bit muted to my mind. Then again, who are we to question Pantone? :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the green. I have some emerald earrings and they are green, green, green! (They're not big. I'm not bragging, they are just really pretty and a deep pure Irish type green.) Love your improv peicing. Looks great. Can't wait to see how you piece this as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on emerald - maybe we've all been influenced by the Wizard of Oz?!! I love your green piecing!
ReplyDeleteIt should be a rich bright green. And as green us my fav colour I've fallen totally in love with what you are doing.
ReplyDeleteDo you know, I'm not sure I could define emerald if you paid me! Kind of a mid deep green maybe? I'm not at all a green fan though, which is probably why I've never pondered it ;o) Your project looks fun though
ReplyDeleteThe quilting world is not ready for true emerald green. My birthstone is emerald (and perhaps the reason I love green so much?) so the Kona Emerald is not right in my mind. Quilting fabric in 'emerald' --> very very little out there. Like I said, the quilting world was not ready for emerald to be the colour of the year!
ReplyDeleteits looking fabulous, quite lost with out my sewing - although my emerald challenge bundle is awaiting me at home! Can't wait to see your emerald quilt finished...
ReplyDeleteEmerald is definitely green (to you an me anyway). I do love the ombre effect too !! Can't wait to see how it'll end up :)
ReplyDeleteNow that I think about it, I think emerald is the only shade of green I don't really like. I don't know why.
This definitely looks like the emerald city to me. Great quilt.
ReplyDeleteThis looks amazing - the ombre effect is stunning!
ReplyDeleteIt looks stunning, and yes, I think the Pantone is a bit odd, so it is not just you xxx
ReplyDeletebeautiful, but I would expect nothing less from you :-)
ReplyDeleteI agree that emerald should be greeny green! I didn't see the cardigan incident so I can't comment. Love the green quilt - makes me want to buy those lovely Kona bundles. I have a colour card now so I (should) know what I'm doing!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you. Emerald is the colour of, well, emeralds! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's been quite strange seeing teal pop up everywhere. I like your solution though. And I'm sure there's sone emerald in there somewhere. Probably more than one - emerald for everyone :)
Your quilt looks like it's been dip dyed, tis lovely.
ReplyDeleteFan-flipin-gorgeous-tastic!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful, Charlotte! I agree that the Pantone Emerald seems a bit more blue than what I think of as emerald :)
ReplyDeleteLove! You are just too clever my dear, I wish I could improv as beautifully as you. And totally with you on the colour perception - my other half and I are constantly disagreeing on navy vs black - I swear he just can't see navy at all ;o)
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteI had the same thoughts about that "emerald"...
Your quilt is wonderful. I have lots of greens but am not at all sure what I will make.
ReplyDeleteI agree, emerald is the green in the top pic! I too was curious about the blue tones in the pantone version of emerald. (And I kind of miss orange!)
ReplyDeleteLove the improv quilt!
love it!! this is going to be beautiful!
ReplyDeletelove it!
ReplyDeletesha-maze-balls!!! as ever ;-)
ReplyDeleteAgree, pantone Emerald looks bit teal-y to me too. Love what you've been up to though!
ReplyDeleteVery Gees Bend Charlotte - LOVE.IT!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAgreed on the green! Now if only it would start looking like this outside - come on Spring!
ReplyDeleteoooooh... aaaaaahhhhh! Wow and other exclamations! This is really, really fantastic.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte I agree with you in regards to what emerald should probably be but can I also suggest that you may have a partial colour blindness. I do which is unusual for women. Ive done the special test so I can say for sure that I can read some of the dot numbers and some I can't. I do have trouble with reading some blues and greens though I will fight to the death to defend my opinion!
ReplyDeleteLooks gorgeous, even if it's not the "official" Emerald! I think the bottom row looks most Emeraldy to me, can almost imagine Dorothy dancing towards it!
